Testing isn’t racing

The fact that Pedrosa finished the Sepang test with the second fastest time, while Marquez was down in seventh, once again shows that testing is not a prediction of the season. It’s an indication. Some riders are just good at testing – there’s no pressure to perform, and no-one shoving you about. I remember going to tests and my team-mate putting in very fast laps, but when it came to racing it was a different story. Some riders perform better when they’re in the thick of a fight – I did. Pedrosa is a great rider and will probably win a race or two, but Marquez is a phenomenal racer and, like everyone else, I expect him to be the man to beat this season.
