Challenging roads, Grasmere gingerbread and tales of speed record attempts

Roads to ride: The Lakes are busy, so get off the beaten track or ride on summer evenings. Test yourself on Wrynose and Hardknott passes, or the A593 from Torver to Ambleside. Places to stay: Base yourself at Great Langdale National Trust campsite (from £10/night). Great pubs within walking distance. Food and drink: Zeffirelli’s in Ambleside is excellent and has plenty of vegan and gluten-free options. It also has its own cinema so does movie and meal deals. Events: Love the outdoors?
