MKIA Interceptor 1966-1968
Engine number prefix: YC and 1A. Approximate production figure: <800. Through 1966 and 1967, RE’S financial position worsens and Norton Villiers take over the Enfield Cycle Company. Interceptor production – now of the new MKIA – moves to the Bradford plant under the control of Enfield Precision Engineers towards the end of 1966. The new model is available in Road Scrambler TT7 (pictured) and Road Racer GP7 forms. The GP7 differences are a tank with screw-on chrome panels, low-level exhausts, shrouded rear suspension, a non-valanced rear mudguard and the Mki’s valanced front mudguard. Both versions now have twin clocks.
Engine : More or less the same as used in the MKI – though now with improved breathing and equipped with 32mm Amal Concentric carburettors. Ignition : Both the TT7 and GP7 models get coil ignition in place of the magneto. The points are housed in a ‘distributor’ style housing behind the barrels, where the magneto was previously located. Brakes: Cooling rings are added to the front brake hub. Forks: Same as the MKI but with detail changes. The top yoke is redesigned and is unique to the MKIA. Other details: The TT7 features a small, chrome tank, upswept silencers, a shallow valance on the rear mudguard and a blade-type front guard.
