Issues with wind?

Yamaha’s Tracer 900 comes fitted with a rubbish screen. But there are solutions. Three in fact. Buffeting? What’s that again?

Giv i S180T Screen Extender £100

Expensive tiny screen extender. Production values and nish are tip-top. Screwing it onto the standard screen is ddly: you can’t stop its rubber connectors from deforming. The screen then slides through adjustment 5cm and can tip forward and back. Add in the Tracer’s 10cm sliding mechanism and you’ve got masses of adjustment. Pitch the screen forward to make it punch through the air and stop deep bassy bu„eting. Great for my short-ish height, but six-footers will be in the breeze. It also gives up at 90mph and only performs if you sit centrally and still. Contact: givi.co.uk

Yamaha High Screen £143

Genuine touring screen is supplied with metal 5mm Allen screws to replace the plastic ones you broke removing the old screen. It’s wide, with bulging sides that make space for the Tracer’s gauntleted handlebar. That means shoulders are protected from wind blast and you’ll get less wet in a downpour. My 5‰ 7in keeps me just out of wind blast in the top setting. Hunching down close to the plastic’s edge yields smooth airŒow, but bassy rumbling further back. It’s the most expensive here and doesn’t protect like the Skidmarx. Nice Tracer logo in the bottom le‰ corner. Contact: yamaha-motor.eu

Skidmarx Tall & Wide Screen £90

Huge Skidmarx creation balloons up towards you from the four-screw tting point. In the Tracer’s adjustable high position the screen cuts your view in half, with a tinted lower reducing visibility at night. Ride at 100mph like this and you’ll feel pressure pressing you forward as the screen creates a vacuum which air tries to ll. It’s pretty quiet, with none of the low-frequency drumbeats the original screen creates. The low setting adds so‰ bu„eting to the crown of your helmet, but still feels comfortable at 90mph. To conclude: it’s big, ugly, and e„ective. Contact: skidmarx.co.uk
