The Scottish bit

-

From: Aberfoyle To: Loch Lomond This ride around the top of Loch Lomond from Glasgow is a classic. I start in Aberfoyle, snaking up the Duke’s Pass before dropping into the Trossachs and along the A821 through Brig O’turk. Just beware of the Duke’s if frost is in the air – they generally don’t treat the surface beyond the Forest Lodge area and there are shady sections that hold ice all day. Pop into the Byre Inn just before Brig O’turk for great gastro pub grub. Go left onto the A84 and north through Strathyre and on up Glen Ogle where the excellent Glen Ogle Snax burger van at the top does a mean roll and square sausage. The A85 to Crianlarich is a fast blast of straights and occasional chicanes before Crianlarich itself and the turn south. The Rod and Reel is the only real food option here before heading south on the A82 down Lomondside. A left at Balloch brings you back to Aberfoyle and the Forth Inn where you will be well looked after by Phil and his cracking food and beer selection. Andy Mccandlish, contributor
