Honda niggles

There are detail treats galore on Honda’s CB1000R+ but it’s by no means perfect. This is what’s hacking me off at the moment…

Fuel warning system

When the fuel gauge gets to one bar it starts blinking to show you’re running low. Fair enough. But instead of also giving you a gure for your range until empty, it shows how much fuel you’ve used since the bar started blinking. What? Given that it knows your average mpg, and how much fuel is le„, why doesn’t it give you a range? Annoying.

Handlebars

surface which As you seems nish can see, odd is wearing the on an bar-end o , otherwise bike. But that’s minty not 3000 the main mile complaint. What irritates me more are the bar vibrations at which is 80mph in top. For short rides it’s barely noticeable, but if I sit on a motorway for a tankful I get white- nger in both hands.

Chain adjustment

only The if quickshi„er the chain is correctly is good, but tensioned. A baggy chain equals lurchy changes. But adjustment is absurdly ddly – you have to undo two pinch bolts on the single sided swingarm, but because of the wheel, disc, sprocket and numberplate carrier, they are an utter git to get to. It’s ddly and extremely infuriating.

Rear shock

For most of the time, this is ne – it feels harsh over destroyed B-roads but is largely ok. However, when you really press on – or take it on track – it’s impossible to get to feel plush and controlled. On so„er compression damping settings it wallows, and on harder ones it just wallows slightly less. Maybe I’m missing the set-up bullseye, but it just feels a bit cheap.
