Iconic Fireblade named by accident

-

º When Honda launched the CBR900RR in 1992 they gave MCN free rein with ‘tears up the rule book’ clichés. They also introduced the Fireblade model name. Sportsbikes didn’t get tagged back then, and so Honda wanted a name that would help the bold new 900 stand out. In a brain-storming meeting it’d been decided this name should sound sharp like sword, and ‘Blade’. was suggested. But some of the Japanese team also thought the name should mean hot. Someone said ‘Fire’, someone else glued the two together and blurted out ‘Fireblade’... and an icon was born.
