Beer results in TT comeback

-

º Mike Hailwood’s 1978 TT win after 11 years away is legendary. And he was only there because of a boozy camp. Hailwood was a guest at a classic meet at Amaroo Park, Sydney in early ’77. He’d not raced for yonks but was second on a Norton. So he entered a meet at Bathurst and was second again. After the race he joined the trackside camp of fellow racer Jim Scaysbrook where they ‘got stuck into the grog’ and dreamed up a plan to endurance race a Ducati 750SS later in the year… which gave Hailwood the racing bug again and led to his Ducati-mounted TT comeback.
