Cappadocia, central Turkey, is renowned for its ‘fairy chimneys’, created by volcanic eruptions, erosion and wind. And then human beings came along and carved homes, chapels, tombs, temples and even entire subterranean cities into this alien-looking landscape. Today, most of these ‘caves’ are boutique hotels. Visiting Cappadocia was one of the highlights of my ride from Serbia to Central Asia on a 2009 Yamaha Ténéré. And while I wish the bike were lighter, it never had any mechanical problems on the 15,500-mile trip.
