Wind protection The flyscreen doesn’t look much but gives enough protection to make 85mph tolerable. Winter reveals odd problems though – the riding position means freezing air goes up your trouser legs.

Clocks Triumph made an effort to make the TFT look traditional and classy. You can choose between two formats – I prefer the look of this one, though can’t read any of it without my varifocals on. The other has bigger numbers.

Filth Aerated mud swirls around the back end at speed and goes everywhere – the titchy hugger is an ornament. The Rocket comes up sparkling after a wash, though we had trouble with the finish of some fasteners.

Cold The heated grips (standard on the GT) are warm rather than hot, so extreme measures were called for. Note the sticky-out wing mirrors – they give an excellent view but make filtering all but impossible.
