BIKE (UK)

The original bike

-

» The bike that made The Great Escape jump in 1963 really wasn’t up to that sort of nonsense. Though prepared by British Triumph dealer and ISDT Gold Medal winner Ken Heanes, there was only so much he could do – the oildamped rear Girling shocks were abysmal and the forks were, if anything, worse. After the jump, the bike ended up being sold to a farmer who used it for herding cows then left it in a barn for decades. It was found and restored by Dick Shepherd and is now on display at Triumph’s museum in Hinckley.
