Low tech bargains
You want fuel injection for reliability, but low tech everything else for a pure (and cheap) riding experience. Here are three prime candidates…
2005 BMW R1200RT £2500
Yes, it’s done 63,457 miles but it’s got plenty of service history, has had the troublesome servo brakes bypassed and looks tidy. If you need to pile on mileage in comfort and don’t want to hang about, an RT is the widely accepted solution. Put a summer of touring on this one and sell it for the same money.
2005 Suzuki GSX-R750 K5 £2950
The GSX-R750 K5 is an outrageously fast road bike and arguably more fun than bigger capacity tackle. This one is relatively unmolested with just a Micron can, fancy levers and a Datatool alarm added. There’s a full Suzuki service history up to 15,000 miles with non-franchise services after that, and it looks as immaculate as the seller says it is.
2008 Moto Guzzi V7 £2950
To be fair, the V7 was a tech-free zone until relatively recently but this one looks like a safe bet if you want to save a few quid on the newer models. The seat, battery and screen are all new, though we’re not sure what’s going on with the tyres – you’ll have to budget to replace those unless you’re entering the Baja 1000. It’s only done 15,106 miles.
