A proper tool
Slick socket sets, T-bars and Torx fittings make tinkering easy but I miss the girth of a real spanner. This weighty example was liberated decades ago from Brush Electrical Machines, where operator Gerry Milner used it on a truly gigantic Kendall and Gent planomilling machine from the early 1900s. Recently discovered in the depths of my dad’s garage, it’s 11/16 Whitworth and the perfect fit on my Enfield’s rear wheel nut.
