On the podium at Spa
A week after racing at Paul Ricard the Team Bike RC30 was back in action at Spa-francorchamps, Belgium. Once again the race was over four hours but this time run straight through. Ian had planned to race the Team’s almost identical 840cc RC30, as the larger capacity was allowed at Spa, but that bike wasn’t ready so the Bol bike was pressed into service with minimal maintenance. ‘All we really did was give it a wipe and change the pads and tyres. Dunlop gave us a rear that did the whole four hours so that saved a change.’
Lancelot had already signed up to ride another bike so Alex rode with Dominic Herbertson, another friend and rival from classic racing. The hilly circuit is famous for rain but the weather was fine and the Honda ran faultlessly. Once again the result was fourth place, this time with the bonus of second in class and a spot on the podium. Not a bad way to end the season.
