Daylight robbery
I thought I should write to you regarding the recent insurance issue I had to deal with…
Having stated for my insurance policy that my bikes are kept in a locked garage at my home overnight when looking through my renewal docs I found the following tucked away in the endorsements: if a theft or attempted theft of your vehicle happens at any time and within a 500m radius of your home address when the vehicle is not locked in the garage we will not pay the claim.
I have had similar insurance policies over the years but they restricted the times they will not provide cover to between 10pm and 6am. Which is much more reasonable. However, the above means that if I get a motorcycle out onto the driveway, for any reason, then pop in the house to make a brew, or for riding kit, and someone heists it I’m not insured.
I declined this renewal and found a more enlightened insurer with only the 10pm to 6am clause.
