Fast facts about our fifty

- DAD

Like all bikes for 16 year olds, the WK Scrambler is restricted to 45kph – that’s 28mph. It shows 30mph (32 downhill) and needs a low gear on climbs. WK sell derestricted ECUS giving 40mph potential for £168. After 1200 miles it’s standing up to teenage abuse better than the reputation of Chinese bikes suggests. The exhaust header’s crusty, the chain needs regular adjusting to stop it slapping the chainguard, and the clock only works with the ignition on so is always wrong. Dicky light-load running was traced to water in the plug cap (cured with tape). Otherwise it’s good – the motor only sips oil, everything’s as taut as when new, and a squirt of ACF-50 has kept everything else rust-free. It appears robust. Day-to-day features are good. The mirrors are decent, its twin horns are deafening, and lights and indicators are bright – the taillight is as vivid as some brake lights. You spot Ed from miles away.
