1999-2011 Aprilia RS125
We’re on a tangent, but stay with us. Race-replica twostroke prices are horrific, but Aprilia’s sweet one-twentyfive is still an affordable way into a world of GP handling, crisp power and hovering clutch fingers. Go for the 1999-on model for its more robust Rotax motor, delicious high-spec chassis and the looks of the iconic RS250. Derestricted to give 30bhp, the RS is a high-thrill lesson in lean angle and corner speed. Check all the electrics and make sure it’s been run on posh oil before handing over £1500 for a scruffy but Mot’d ex-learner bike, or £2750 for a gleaming full-power example.
