There’s a touch of the ‘celebrity at home’ to the whole thing, but the behind the scenes footage from the VR46 academy and team are interesting, and when Vale opens up about strategy, superstition and Simoncelli, about fear, rituals and rivals it’s great. He’s always been good on camera, but in retirement mode he’s funnier, chattier and swearier than ever. Some of the insight is fascinating. I might even start following GT car racing next year.
