Waders to terns
At least four pairs of Black-winged Stilts nested in North Kent, all failing at the critical stage owing to natural predation. The first-summer Semipalmated Plover continued at Tacumshin (Co. Wexford) until at least mid-month. A male Kentish Plover visited The Naze (Essex) on 4th, an adult Pacific Golden Plover was at Titchwell RSPB (Norfolk) on 18th and adult American Golden Plovers at Rye Harbour NR (East Sussex) from 1st-5th, Tacumshin Pools (Co. Wexford) from 6th-9th and Beacon Lane Ponds NR, Kilnsea (East Yorks) on 22nd. In Wales, a Broad-billed Sandpiper appeared with Dunlin at Gronant (Clwyd) from 11th-12th, moving to Kinmel Bay, NE of Towyn (Clwyd) next day and then Goldcliff Pools (Gwent) from 18th-21st. It then returned to Gronant on 22nd. A Spotted Sandpiper made a surprise visit to Brent Reservoir (London) on 11th. The Hudsonian Whimbrel continued oversummering west of Perranuthnoe (Cornwall) at Boat Cove, a Buffbreasted Sandpiper at Hickling Broad (Norfolk) on 9th and a Stilt Sandpiper at Carsebreck Pools (Perth and Kinross) from 24th-25th. A Red-necked Phalarope remained on Grindon
