Gen­er­ally, a bird of the north, Hen Har­ri­ers are also found fur­ther south in the win­ter, start­ing with their dis­per­sal in the au­tumn. Males are pale grey, with black wingtips, and white bel­lies and rumps. Ju­ve­niles and fe­males are brown and streaky, with a barred tail and a white rump. They are long winged birds with long tails, usu­ally seen quar­ter­ing low with wings held in a shal­low V (see page 46).
