TREE SPARROW
The Tree Sparrow is the pretty country cousin of the House Sparrow. Slightly smaller, and neater, ithas a chestnut brown cap, and clean white cheeks sporting a black spot, and awhite ‘collar’. Unlike House Sparrows, the sexes are effectively indistinguishable. Like House Sparrows, Tree Sparrow populations have crashed massively, but there are signs of a slight recovery. Look for them in rural settings, around farms etc. And listen for the more clipped, ‘chip chip’ calls.
