1 From where you park fol­low the track up along­side the stream and fish pools check­ing for Moorhen, Coot, Dip­per up the stream and watch for Wil­low Tit. There is a hide. 2 Then walk up through the wood­land where Lesser and Great Spot­ted Wood­pecker, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Jay and Wood­pi­geon are seen. A Tawny Owl may be heard (or seen) and there may be a Tree Pipit or a Marsh Tit. 3 Now up to the hill fort and check the sky for Buz­zard, Red Kite or Raven and the gen­eral area for Wheatear or Red­start in spring and sum­mer, plus Swifts. 4 Fi­nally, down to the cas­tle, check­ing the pines on the way for those Gold­crests then cross an open area with Pheas­ant and Sky Lark and keep an eye on a pos­si­ble Spar­rowhawk. At the cas­tle look for Robin, Chaffinch, House Spar­row, Black­bird, Song Thrush, Red­wing and Mis­tle Thrush.
