1 From where you park follow the track up alongside the stream and fish pools checking for Moorhen, Coot, Dipper up the stream and watch for Willow Tit. There is a hide. 2 Then walk up through the woodland where Lesser and Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Jay and Woodpigeon are seen. A Tawny Owl may be heard (or seen) and there may be a Tree Pipit or a Marsh Tit. 3 Now up to the hill fort and check the sky for Buzzard, Red Kite or Raven and the general area for Wheatear or Redstart in spring and summer, plus Swifts. 4 Finally, down to the castle, checking the pines on the way for those Goldcrests then cross an open area with Pheasant and Sky Lark and keep an eye on a possible Sparrowhawk. At the castle look for Robin, Chaffinch, House Sparrow, Blackbird, Song Thrush, Redwing and Mistle Thrush.
