1 From the shingle beach check the sea for passing Gannet, Fulmar, Kittiwake, plus feeding Red-throated Diver, Red-breasted Merganser, grebes, auks, gulls and sea ducks. The foreshore can attract Turnstone, Ringed Plover, Sanderling, Dunlin, Rock Pipit and Snow Bunting.

2 Check the marshes and lagoons for wildfowl, including large numbers of Wigeon, Pintail, Shoveler and Teal, plus waders such as Avocet, Curlew, Blacktaile­d Godwit and Snipe. Also, Bittern, Bearded Tit, Kingfisher, Water Pipit, Little Egret and Mediterran­ean Gull. Raptors can include Merlin, Hen and Marsh Harriers. 3 Check the grazing meadows for geese and swans, including Whitefront­ed Goose, plus Golden Plover, Ruff, Lapwing, Kestrel, Buzzard, Merlin, winter thrushes, plus Shorteared and Barn Owls at dusk. A good spot to scan the Short Reach for Little Egret, Grey Heron, Brent Goose, Shelduck, Grey Wagtail, Green Sandpiper and Kingfisher

4 Typical farmland and wayside birds should include partridges, Stock Dove, Sky Lark, partridges, Meadow Pipit, Lapwing, Golden Plover, Stonechat, Linnet, Yellowhamm­er, Bullfinch, Redpoll and Siskin. Sparrowhaw­k are active here while coastal scrub can be a good spot for a Woodcock flushed from cover or a roosting Long-eared Owl.
