Bird Watching (UK)

KEY POINTS

-

1

The drive parallel to the outflow from Leighton Moss can give you a few interesting birds like chats and geese across the fields.

2

The walk to the two hides can be productive for warblers in spring and finches and buntings in winter. Rarities have been found in the bushes here.

3

The Allen Hide with its scrape is a great place to watch Avocets breeding among the Black-headed Gulls in spring and summer. Check out the waders for rare birds pushed in by the tide.

4

The Eric Morecambe Hide covers a vast area and even looks back at the Allen Pool. Check the fence posts for perched raptors.

5

These fields can have both waders and geese and are always worth a look.

6

The extension at Barrow Scout has great reedbeds and open pools but is hard to view. You can look from the track to the hides but for height try the road at Craig Foot.
