Bird Watching (UK)

Irresponsible?

-

I am extremely disappointed to see that you are promoting My200BirdYear in your February magazine at a time when most of us are unable to travel. Yes, some people are fortunate enough to live within walking distance of a good birding site, but where I live in the West Midlands, even the nearest good site is a car ride away which is forbidden. We have to be content with looking at our local birds, which is fine, but there is no way we can add to the usual garden birds. We get excited if we have a glimpse of a Great Spotted Woodpecker, or a heron flying over!

n The editor says: I think you hit the nail on the head, Sheila, with your excitement at a glimpse of a flyby woodpecker or heron! The beauty of My200BirdYear is it is YOU who make the rules (and target) to suit your own area and restrictions.
