EAST YORKSHIRE
FLAMBOROUGH: There was a Caspian Gull, two Mediterranean Gulls, five Great Northern Divers and eight Long-tailed Ducks (1st), a Velvet Scoter (4th), with seven (10th), a Pomarine Skua (5th), 13 Lapland Buntings (9th), three Tundra Bean Geese (12th), six Snow Buntings (15th), a Black-throated Diver (17th), Red-necked Grebe (22nd), Iceland Gull (30th) and Hooded Crow (31st).
HORNSEA MERE: There were seven Tundra Bean Geese (2nd), a Mediterranean Gull (4th), three Smew, a Great Northern Diver and Long-tailed Duck (6th), a Red-necked Grebe (20th) and Iceland Gull (29th). Forty Snow Buntings were on the coast (10th).
SPURN: There was a good count of 182 Cormorants early in the month. Passing seabirds included eight Great Northern Divers, seven Velvet Scoters, two Great Skuas, two Iceland Gulls, a Sooty Shearwater and Little Auk. There were 1,850 Pinkfeet, 15 Russian Whitefronts, 29 Barnacle Geese, 850 dark-bellied Brents, seven pale-bellied birds, and a Black Brant (from 22nd).
Kilnsea Wetlands held two Scaup, two Red-breasted Mergansers, 35 Mediterranean Gulls, two Caspian Gulls and 154 Black-tailed Godwits. A Hen Harrier flew over Holderness Field (15th). Late in the month saw two Hooded Crows at Sammy’s Point, a Black Redstart on Easington Straight and a few Snow Buntings along the beach. The biggest surprise was a Garden Warbler ringed at Kew Villa (17th).
OTHER SITES: A Grey Phalarope was at Withernsea (5th), with an Iceland Gull nearby (28th). A Snow Bunting was at Stone Creek (13th). Great White Egrets were at Fraisthorpe (11th), Brigham (19th) and Kilnwick Percy (25th). A Firecrest was at Cottingham (18th). A Black-throated Diver was off Holmpton (29th), with 21 Snow Buntings there (31st). Barmston had four Tundra Bean Geese (22nd), nine Snow Buntings (28th) and 60 Twite. Smew were at Welton Water and High Eske (30th).
