GULL PELLETS

-

Many birds regurgitate pellets of undigestible material. Although we most commonly associate pellets with owls, even small birds produce pellets, although it is generally larger ones which are found. Gull pellets are medium-large and globular, and contain a wide range of material reflecting gulls’ varied diet. As many gulls feed on refuse dumps, plastic and polythene and string are more likely to be found in gull pellets than those of other birds. But gull pellets can also contain fish remains, fur, feathers, shell fragments (see photo), or even cereal husks, and everything in between. Herring Gull pellets are typically 2.5cm to 5cm long and 1.5cm to 2cm in diameter
