BEDFORDSHI­RE

HIGHLIGHTS: A Crane was heard calling at Broom (16th), but not seen. There was a second-summer Caspian Gull at Grovebury Sand Pit (25th-27th).

BUCKINGHAM­SHIRE

HIGHLIGHTS: A Temminck’s Stint was at Little Marlow GP (29th). A Garganey was at FFNR (24th), with a Nightingal­e there (6th). A Ruff was at Dorney Common (27th-28th). An Arctic Tern was at Watermead (7th). Great White Egrets were at Eythrope (8th) and Little Marlow GP (29th). A Turtle Dove was at Rowsham (4th). A Short-eared Owl was at Lodge Hill (8th). A White-tailed Eagle (G393) was in Bucks according to satellite data (17th-18th).

DORNEY COMMON: There were two Black-tailed Godwits, five Shelducks, three Green Sandpipers (20th-30th), Little Ringed Plovers (4th and 30th), with two (27th), and a Redshank (20th).

LITTLE MARLOW GP: There were 17 Black-tailed Godwits (27th), the first site record of breeding Shelducks, a Hobby (12th), Peregrine (4th), a Common Sandpiper and Green Sandpiper (28th), a Mediterran­ean Gull, Yellow-legged Gull (15th) and up to five Little Ringed Plovers.

OTHER SITES: A Snipe was at College Lake (12th). Curlews were at Gallows Bridge (27th) and Oakley (30th). Four Grasshoppe­r Warblers were at Olney (1st). Six Tree Sparrows were at Little Linford Wood and one at Haversham (9th). A Lesser Redpoll flew over Tattenhoe (1st). Two Crossbills flew over Back Wood (15th), with one over Rushmere Park (4th). HERTFORDSH­IRE

HIGHLIGHTS: A Hoopoe was at Little Gaddesden (24th). Two Black-necked Grebes were at Tyttenhang­er GP (1st-3rd). Three Common Scoters were at Hilfield Park Reservoir (20th). A Garganey was at Rye Meads (18th). An Osprey flew over Maple Cross (7th).

KENT

HIGHLIGHTS: A White-tailed Lapwing was briefly at Stodmarsh NNR (2nd). A Black Stork flew over South Foreland and St Margaret’s at Cliffe (3rd), and Sellindge (5th-6th). Dungeness RSPB had up to three Collared Pratincole­s (6th-16th), a Rose-coloured Starling (1st-25th), Glossy Ibis (1st-26th), Serin (7th) and Golden Oriole (11th). Dungeness NNR had a Bee-eater (2nd), Serin (7th), Honey Buzzard (10th) and Marsh Warbler (15th). Worth Marsh had a Caspian Tern (8th), Red-footed Falcon (6th-26th), Black-winged Stilt (23rd) and Red-backed Shrike (23rd).

Five Rose-coloured Starlings and a Bee-eater were at South Foreland (2nd). Rose-coloured Starlings were also at Ramsgate (2nd), Sandwich Bay (four on 3rd), Dungeness NNR (5th and 13th), Worth Marsh (6th) and Oare Marshes (12th). Purple Herons were at Stodmarsh (1st) and Graveney Marshes (5th). Golden Orioles were at Park Gate Down (2nd) and Stodmarsh (6th). A Bee-eater was at Lydd (5th), with ten at Dover (8th), nine at Folkestone (9th) and four at Worth Marsh (9th).

A Montagu’s Harrier was at Shellness/Swale (5th-6th). Honey Buzzards were at Sholden (5th), Sandwich Bay (6th), when 80 Red Kites flew through, and at Kingsdown (12th). A Black Kite flew over Postling (5th). A Marsh Warbler was at Reculver (9th). A Red-footed Falcon was at Bough Beech Reservoir (14th). A Stone Curlew was at Pegwell Bay (25th). White Storks were at Grove Ferry (17th) and Kentmarsh (21st). A Red-backed Shrike was seen at Langdon Cliffs (23rd).

LONDON

HIGHLIGHTS: Black Redstarts were at St James Park (3rd and 25th), Canary Wharf (4th), in The City (six dates), Westminste­r (six dates), Fitzrovia (17th), Hackney 29th) and Battersea (30th). The Black-necked Grebe was seen at Wanstead intermitte­ntly, with a Quail there (6th-7th). Walthamsto­w had a Spoonbill (4th), Hawfinch (11th), Common Scoter (18th and 21st-23rd) and Scaup (25th-27th). A Golden Oriole was at Stoke Newington and a Kittiwake at Rotherhith­e (2nd).

A Yellow-legged Gull was at Rotherhith­e (12th and 27th-28th), and Belvedere (20th). A Spoonbill was in Dagenham (13th). A Little Gull (21st) and Arctic Tern (28th) were at Becton. SURREY

HIGHLIGHTS: A White Stork was seen at Frensham Great Pond (20th). An Alpine Swift was found exhausted at North Cheam (22nd), but happily was released again at Leatherhea­d (30th). A Turtle Dove was seen at Thursley Common (1st). A first-summer Little Gull was at Tice’s Meadow (1st-2nd), and there was a drake Garganey there (12th). A Wood Warbler sang at Churt (3rd). Three Roseate Terns were briefly seen at Walton Reservoir (6th). An Osprey was at Bury Hill Fisheries, Dorking (7th-12th). A Hawfinch was recorded at Capel (19th). Quail were sound recorded flying over Ewell (24th & 26th).

SUSSEX

EAST SUSSEX: A Golden Oriole was at Ringmer (1st). Rose-coloured Starlings were at Brighton (1st) and Beachy Head (5th). A White Stork was at Rye Harbour (6th). A Honey Buzzard flew over Firle (6th). Two Collared Pratincole­s were at Rye Harbour (7th).

WEST SUSSEX: A Red-backed Shrike was at Steyning (3rd). White-tailed Eagles were at Amberley Wild Brooks (3rd-29th), Arundel (9th), Littlehamp­ton (19th) and Findon (30th). Rose-coloured Starlings were at Rustington (13th) and Selsey (19th). Golden Orioles were recorded at West Wittering (15th) and Cissbury Ring (16th). A Honey Buzzard was seen at Shoreham-by-Sea (15th).
