Bird Watching (UK)

Bo knows...

-

I have just read Bo’s column in the August edition of Bird Watching. A real breath of fresh air!

I love the honesty and outspokenness of this man. If we only had more of him, someone to be far more forward thinking to see and protect the future for us all. Nature is important, without it we would not be here. We have all wafted a bee away at some point, sadly ignorance is not bliss. Without pollinators our food would not continue as we know it.

I am saddened by some being cross when nature moves into what we call our areas. We stole it from them in the first place. I have been shouting we need renewable energy for years! Being around nature has helped many during the pandemic. My daughter has M.E. and has been ill for 29 years, housebound for 5+ years. Our view of nature comes through magazines like this, bringing nature into our home and learning what we can do within our own garden – plants for birds, bees, butterflies etc.

Wildlife, with many birds, hedgehogs and rats at times, are all visitors. They are all trying to survive, as we are, the best way we can and we must support each other to achieve this. We have never travelled abroad, picnics that we had were cleared away and taken home, dogs were walked on leads and cleared up after, we recycle all that we can and we don’t have a TV so feel we are doing our bit. I know we all have room for improvement, but it’s a start.

Nature is one of the most beautiful things to see and it’s free. We can’t lose these areas. So well done Bo, I agree wholeheartedly. A future of love, respect and tolerance for all and a change in laws would be a start but we can all join in and do our bit. We have to remember we have choices too. Linda Lord
