CAMBRIDGES­HIRE

HIGHLIGHTS: A Green-winged Teal was at Ely Beet Pits (2nd-11th). A Hoopoe was at Heathfield (12th- 24th). The Yellow- browed Warbler remained at Milton CP. Seven Glossy Ibises remained in the Berry Fen and Earith area, with six at Ouse Fen (from 28th) and singles at the Nene Washes (from 22nd) and Sutton Gault (12th). Three Spoonbills were at Kingfisher­s Bridge. The Great Grey Shrike returned to Comberton (from 23rd). A Ring Ouzel was at Star Pit, Dogsthorpe (14th22nd). A Lapland Bunting flew over Holme Fen (9th). Five Long- eared Owls were at Kings Dyke (2nd). The Kumlien’s Gull remained between Heydon and Chrishall Grange, and was on the Ouse Washes (16th). Five Tundra Bean Geese were near Fortrey’s Hall (30th). A Glaucous Gull was at the Nene Washes (30th), with an Iceland Gull at March Farmers (22nd). Grafham Water had a Snow Bunting (1st- 4th), two Great Northern Divers, a Red-throated Diver (11th), two Smew, two Common Scoters, two Red- breasted Mergansers (5th), a Kittiwake (28th) and seven Scaup. Smew included ten at Fen Drayton Lakes, two at Bainton GP, six at Paxton Pits and four at St Ives GP (16th). A Black- necked Grebe was at Godmanches­ter GP (from 3rd).

ESSEX

FRINTON- ON- SEA: Maxima included 173 Red-throated Divers, two Great Northern Divers, two Slavonian Grebes, 12 Eiders and a Pomarine Skua.

METROPOLIT­AN ESSEX: A Dusky Warbler was at Walthamsto­w Marshes. Five Russian Whitefront­s were at Fairlop. King George V

Reservoir held a Great Northern Diver, Red- necked Grebe and two Scaup. Two Cattle Egrets were at Hall Marsh, with two at the Mardyke. Seventy Acres had two Bitterns, four Smew and a Scaup. Great White Egrets were at three sites. Two Pinkfeet were at Damyns Hall. Firecrests were at six sites. A Siberian Chiffchaff was at Creekside. There were 350 Bramblings at Navestock. Four Hawfinches were at Harold Hill. An Avocet was at Beckton STW.

MID-ESSEX: Abberton Reservoir had eight Cattle Egrets, eight Great White Egrets, a Long-tailed Duck, Red- necked Grebe, two Slavonian Grebes, a Red-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, five Smew, ten Scaup, eight Bewick’s Swans, 33 Russian Whitefront­s, a Pink-footed Goose, two Common Scoters, a Caspian Gull, Yellow- legged Gull, Hen Harrier and a Shag. Mersea Island had two Black Brants. The Blackwater logged two Black-throated and five Great Northern Divers, seven Slavonian Grebes, 364 Great Crested Grebes, 48 Red- breasted Mergansers, a Velvet Scoter, Hen Harrier, two Short- eared Owls, Merlins, a Russian Whitefront and a Shag. Tollesbury had four Slavonian Grebes, two Great Northern Divers, a Merlin, Whooper Swan and Spotted Redshank. Old Hall Marshes had a Whimbrel, Spotted Redshanks, 28 Russian Whitefront­s, nine Cattle Egrets, three Hen Harriers, Merlin and Snow Bunting. Four Short- eared Owls were around Copt Hall. A Hen Harrier was at Salcott. A Black Redstart was at Brightling­sea. A Lapland Bunting flew over Alresford. There were 27 Hawfinches on the Danbury Ridge.

NORTH ESSEX: The Naze had five Short- eared Owls, Merlins, an Eider, Snow Bunting and Purple Sandpiper. Hamford Waters had 23 Marsh Harriers, three Hen Harriers, a Short- eared Owl, Merlin, Black Brant and eight Pinkfeet. There were 270 Avocets were at Mistley Quay. A Great Northern Diver was at Wrabness. Colne Point had a Hen Harrier and a Siberian Chiffchaff. Holland Haven had 40 Russian Whitefront­s, five Purple Sandpipers, a Merlin and two Dartford Warblers. There were 26 Hawfinches at Hatfield Forest.

RAINHAM MARSHES: Highlights included two Dartford Warblers, two Firecrests, a few Chiffchaff­s, Blackcaps, winter thrushes, Water Pipits, Rock Pipits and Bearded Tits, five Barnacle Geese, two Pinkfeet, a Brent Goose, three Great White Egrets, a Spoonbill, 42 Avocets, three Common Sandpipers, two Jack Snipe, the odd Caspian Gull, Yellow- legged Gull and Mediterran­ean Gull, a ‘Viking’ Gull, Marsh Harriers, Red Kites and four Ravens.

SOUTH-EAST ESSEX: The two Red- breasted Geese remained on the Dengie, though both

started to roam. Two Velvet Scoters, a Red- necked Grebe and Whimbrel were along the Crouch. Wallasea had three Spoonbills, a Glossy Ibis, two Twite, a Lapland Bunting, Hen Harrier, Short- eared Owl and Merlin. A Snow Bunting was at Ropers Farm. Hen Harriers, Merlins and Great White Egrets were at three further sites. A Short- eared Owl was at Bowers, with three at South Fambridge, where there was also a Shag.

Canvey maxima included 61 Red-throated Divers, 251 Great Crested Grebes, a Velvet Scoter, 35 Guillemots, ten Razorbills and a Little Gull. Tilbury had a White Stork, Cattle Egret, Little Stint, 631 Avocets and four Water Pipits. Hawfinches were in three woods. Howard Vaughan

NORFOLK

HIGHLIGHTS: The Short-toed Lark re-appeared at West Runton. Five Shore Larks ranged between Holkham Bay and Burnham Overy Dunes. Another was at Happisburg­h (22nd). Waxwings were at Sculthorpe (7th-11th), Cley (7th-12th), Winterton and Snettisham. A Ring Ouzel flew in off sea at Cley (9th). A Ring- necked Duck was at Welney (28th). The Todd’s Canada Goose was seen again at Barrow Common (2nd), Stanhoe (8th-16th) and Burnham Market (10th). Five Taiga Bean Geese remained at Buckenham Marshes (to 19th). Nine Tundra Bean Geese were at Welney (from 13th), with four at Stanhoe (14th-16th) and one or two at six further sites. Black Brants were at Snettisham (from 21st) and Cley Marshes (to 18th). Three Glossy Ibises were at Welney (1st-16th), with singles at Cley (19th) and over Kelling Heath (21st). The Iceland Gull ranged between Cley and Weybourne, with others at Holkham Bay, Titchwell, Holme, Winterton and East Wretham Heath. Glaucous Gulls were at Cromer (6th), and Waxham and Winterton

(25th-27th). A Grey Phalarope was at Stiffkey (6th) and two flew past Cley (31st). A Red- necked Grebe commuted between Ormesby Little Broad and Rollesby Broad. Two Slavonian Grebes were at Ormesby Broad (5th). Smew were at Rollesby Broad (5th) and Taverham Mill (from 27th). Black- necked Grebes and Great Northern Divers were at five sites each.

BREYDON: Maxima included 45,000 Wigeon, 12,000 Pinkfeet,1,228 Shovelers, 4,000 Teal, 137 Gadwall, 175 Pintails, 31 Barnacle Geese, 21 Bewick’s Swans, two Whooper Swans, two Spoonbills, 51 Little Egrets, eight Great White Egrets, two Great Crested Grebes, 309 Avocets, 8,200 Lapwings, 27,910 Golden Plovers, 24 Oystercatc­hers, 59 Grey Plovers, 51 Ringed Plovers, 31 Knot, 5,270 Dunlin, 2,110 Black-tailed Godwits, 47 Bar-tailed Godwits, 1,011 Curlews, 1,000 Redshanks, seven Snipe, three Jack Snipe, a Greenshank and Spotted Redshank. There was a Great Northern Diver, Short- eared Owl, seven Stonechats and three Cetti’s Warblers.

NOA HOLME: Maxima included 2,500 Lapwings, 32 Red- breasted Mergansers, seven Eiders, four Fulmars, three Cetti’s Warblers, 2,000 Golden Plovers, five Ruff, two Stonechats, three Gannets, five Siskins, 1,000 Wigeon, nine Red-throated Divers, 1,000 Common Scoters, two Barn Owls, two Great Northern Divers, 30 Great Crested Grebes, 24 Black-tailed Godwits, four Kittiwakes, 23 Snow Buntings, two Goldeneyes, 10 Jays, 170 Fieldfares, two Bramblings, 265 Chaffinche­s, two Red Kites and a Pintail, Velvet Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Goosander, Peregrine, Rock Pipit, Great White Egret, White-tailed Eagle, Blackthroa­ted Diver, Slavonian Grebe, Water Rail, Bittern, Greenshank, Woodcock, Hen Harrier, Merlin, Bearded Tit, Chiffchaff, Siberian Chiffchaff, Bullfinch and Raven.

NOA REDWELL MARSH: Highlights included a Little Egret, Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, two Sparrowhaw­ks, 100 Teal, a Bullfinch, Snipe, 22 Lapwings and a Redshank.

CLEY AREA: Highlights included 60 Snow Buntings, a Black Redstart, Red- necked

Grebe, Caspian Gull, Hen Harrier, three Water Pipits, 11 White-fronted Geese, two Tundra Bean Geese and a White-tailed Eagle.

SUFFOLK

HIGHLIGHTS: A Lesser Yellowlegs was at Minsmere (from 16th). A Glossy Ibis ranged between Carlton and Oulton Marshes (from 9th), with one at Minsmere and Aldeburgh Town Marshes (6th). A Shore Lark was at Kessinglan­d (6th-25th). Eleven Twite were at Dunwich. The Black-throated Diver remained on the Orwell (to 23rd), with a Great Northern Diver (to 15th). Other Great Northern Divers were at Aldeburgh (to 15th) and Oulton Broad (1st). A Red- necked Grebe was at Alton Water (3rd-14th). A Long-tailed Duck was at Benacre Pits (4th). A Smew was at Iken (30th). The Glaucous Gull was by Hen Reedbeds (from 10th), with one at Minsmere (2nd). An Iceland Gull was seen at Lowestoft Harbour, and Carlton Marshes (30th).
