WINNER: Young Conservationist of the Year

“As an obsessive birder, Birdwatch is really close to my heart – the magazine I grew up first flicking through the bird photos and then reading each month. In early 2011, an interview with the eight-year-old me was printed in the magazine, with me talking about my favourite birds. So, to win the Young Conservationist of the Year category 10 years later means a huge amount to me, especially as there were so many fantastic young people also nominated.

“Despite COVID-19, 2020 has been an extraordinary year for me, starting with being awarded an honorary doctorate, speaking with Greta Thunberg, striking in the Arctic, signing a deal for a book about birds and birding, becoming a Swarovski Brand Opinion Leader and now winning this award. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, I’m so grateful for everyone’s support for both me and Black2Nature.”
