Singing warblers

-

LATE April and May is very much peak time for birdsong. Our resident birds are joined by millions of migrant songsters, with this influx of new arrivals adding both volume and diversity to the soundscape of our birding patches. While the song of a Common Cuckoo or Common Nightingale may be ‘the sound of spring’ for many birders, there can be little arguing that it is the warblers that add the greatest variety of song to our daily lives at this time of year. Be it the fluty whistle of a Willow Warbler, the rich refrain of a Blackcap, the scratchiness of a Common Whitethroat or the manic buzz of a Sedge Warbler, each is an iconic sound of the season. We want to see your best photos of warblers in song for this month’s photo challenge. The winner will receive a copy of Bird Songs and Calls by Hannu Jännes and Owen Roberts.
