May photo challenge winner

WE had a fantastic response to the singing warblers photo challenge, with more than 150 submissions of no fewer than 13 species. The volume of top shots made choosing a winner a tricky task and any number of images could have won. In the end, though, after much deliberation, we opted for David Edge’s terrific capture of a Great Reed Warbler in full song. Taken in Spain, this well-framed image has caught the warbler in a great pose, with the bird’s bright red gape contrasting with the neutral colours of its plumage and surroundings.
