Veery (Connecticut, United States, 4 May 2019).

-

5 This species is probably one of the easier Catharus thrushes to identify due to its overall warm, rusty- cinnamon upperparts and pale, whitish- grey underparts. Like Grey- cheeked, it lacks a noticeable eyering and shows a grey wash across the ear coverts when fresh. The malar and throat are usually rich buff overlain with dark rufous- brown streaks or small spots that are limited and often confined to a narrow patch across the lower throat. In the field, in dense cover where plumage features may be hard to see, Veery can appear large and particularly long legged, with a noticeably long and spiky bill.
