Shore Lark

-

BY the time December arrives, so has winter ‘proper’. The days are short and often dank, meaning that making the most of the crisp, sunny days is a must for birders and photographers alike. One species that is sure to brighten up any midwinter day’s birding is Shore Lark. An infrequent visitor to our shores – and sadly one that is becoming even scarcer – it always figures highly in any birder’s plans for a foray to the east coast.

Despite its relative rarity these days, encounters with Shore Lark can often be highly rewarding. Much like the commoner Snow Bunting, they are attractive birds that favour arresting surroundings

– windswept, sandy beaches, for example.

They are truly photogenic birds and we’re looking forward to seeing your best shots, taken at home or abroad, of this delightful lark.

The winner will receive a copy of We Have a Dream by Mya-Rose Craig. Best of luck! ■
