Reuben’s wet weather wonders set for city show

-

A NEW collection of oil paintings showing scenes from Birmingham city centre will go on display later this month.

Called ‘City Living’, they are the work of renowned Birmingham artist Reuben Colley who will be displaying and selling the paintings at his eponymous gallery in Colmore Row.

Mr Colley was born in 1976 in Hodge Hill and says he has always drawn inspiration from the industrial urban setting in which he grew up.

These new images capture New Street and Corporation Street and evoke thoughts of wintry, rain-sodden roads in the heart of Birmingham city centre. Each of these paintings records a day in the life of an ever-changing and evolving city. Mr Colley said: “I am constantly exploring new areas of my own painting to see what creates an atmosphere or a mood for the viewer. The paintings become a record of my own experiences and impressions of places.”

Reuben Colley Fine Art was founded in 2010 and, after five years of business in Moseley, relocated to Colmore Row last year. In 2015, he was commissioned by John Lewis to create five major paintings of Birmingham for the company’s new store in Grand Central which now hang in its restaurant.

‘City Living’ will be on display from September 12 to October 29 and the original ten paintings and signed limited editions will be available for purchase.
