Albion really wanted me – and that was key, says Chadli

-

NACER Chadli was a man in demand but was lured to West Bromwich Albion through flattery.

A queue of clubs were keen to take the Belgium international off Tottenham’s hands.

But Chadli picked the Baggies after it was made clear how highly he was rated by Tony Pulis and his backroom staff.

“I had a few clubs interested but West Brom came very quickly and they showed concrete interest and wanted to make it happen,” the 27-year-old said.

“I thought if they really want me, it’s important for me to go there and prove myself. That’s why I chose West Brom.”

Chadli became the club’s record signing when he moved from Spurs last month for £13 million.

Another reason why he opted for The Hawthorns was the advice of his old friend and compatriot, Sebastien Pocognoli.

“He was very positive about the club and so that’s it,” Chadli said.

“I spoke to the manager and the good people at the club and I was very convinced about my choice.”

Chadli and Pocognoli go way back. As far back as kids in the jun- ior set-up at Standard Liege, their home-town club. Pocognoli has since joined Brighton on loan until January, but was still at the club when Chadli signed last week.

“I’ve known him for a long time, ever since I was 12 years old,” Chadli added.

“It was nice catching up because also he was with the national team. It was good too see him.”
