Bags beside wheelie bins ‘no longer collected’

-

BIRMINGHAM’S binmen are no longer collecting bags of waste left by the side of wheelie bins, it was announced.

This is the latest stage in the return to regular refuse collection services following the longrunning summer bin strike.

Binmen had been taking the extra bags to help clear the massive backlog built up during the three months of disruption to services.

But a council statement said: “From Monday, November 6, we will no longer collect household side waste from properties with wheelie bins. This is part of our return to normal operations.”

The council has issued the following instructions to residents:

Please leave your household, recycling or garden waste out before 6am to be collected on your normal collection days;

Please separate your waste and household rubbish in the grey lid bin and recycling in the blue lid bin. Check what waste can go in your bins;

Please ensure that your wheelie bin lids are fully closed, as raised lids may result in bins not being emptied due to the risk of causing damage to the bins and vehicles.

They also state that additional waste left at the sides of wheelie bins will not be removed unless it is the result of a previously reported missed collection.
