Minister out of touch with reality

-

A SOURCE at West Midlands Police accused the Home Secretary of “living on a different planet” to the one where “crime is going through the roof and funding for police officers have fallen through the floor”.

Amber Rudd was addressing an audience of Police and Crime Commissioners and Chief Constables which turned to anger as she tells police to focus on cutting crime while diverting her attention away from budgets.

I have some sympathy with West Midlands Police and indeed other police forces throughout the country.

That said, I do think that Amber Rudd is “living on another planet”, but not the one that the Police and Crime Commissioners are thinking. We must take cognisance that she was promoted to Home Secretary by the former Home Secretary Theresa May, now Prime Minister. My impression is that she wants to make an impression that she is strong by not giving in to Police and Crime Commissioners lobbying the Government for money and sees herself as a Prime Minister in waiting.

Maybe she models herself on former PM Margaret Thatcher, who was never backwards in coming forward. Not knowing anything about her skills and attributes to warrant being the Home Secretary it seems to me that she is not in touch with the reality of our world, as crime is rising but offers no suggestion of how to halt it. However, I do applaud West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner David Jamieson for accusing the Home Secretary of a “truly incredible outburst.”
