No good could come from President Trump’s visit to Britain

-

had in mind. There is not a week that goes by in which he does not create either a domestic or international crisis.

It may now be only a matter of time before Teflon Don comes unstuck.

But despite almost bringing the world to the brink of nuclear war, discriminating against a region and creating substantial racial tensions, last week his actions took on a whole new meaning for Britain.

Stirring from his slumber, Trump followed a familiar pattern in his life by grabbing his phone to begin tweeting the latest ramblings of his ever worrying mind.

In doing so he opted to retweet three videos posted by Jayda Fransen – the deputy leader of the far-right, ultranationalist, neofascist hate group, Britain First.

It was the same Jayda Fransen who currently faces four charges of causing religiously aggravated harassment in Kent and is also set to stand trial accused of using threatening and abusive language in Belfast.

Despite the accusations, Trump took it upon himself to offer her a platform on which to spread her hateful message to his 43 million followers.

The videos he retweeted paint Muslims as anti-Christian criminals who beat up white kids and break statues of the Virgin Mary.

They were aimed at demonising Muslims, a religious minority that already faces a disproportionate number of hate crimes.

One of the videos he retweeted was, as he would say, “fake news” – a total distortion of the facts.

But by circulating his vile falsehoods to spread hatred, to divide communities and incite extremists, it showed more than ever why his invitation of a UK visit must be withdrawn. Downing Street’s rare condemnation of Trump’s action – with Theresa May saying it was “the wrong thing to do” – makes it impossible for him to be given the honour of the red carpet treatment, a coach ride along the Mall and tea with the Queen.

Don’t get me wrong, Britain must seek to maintain the ‘special relationship’ with America but Trump is no friend of the UK when he interferes, fuelling hate in our country.

Given his love of a knee-jerk reaction isn’t it terrifying the White House extremist has a finger on the nuclear button?

The man cannot even find the right Theresa May on Twitter, typing in the name of a blameless woman in Bognor.

Let us be crystal clear. Trump’s behaviour is sick and disgusting.

We are watching, in real time, the President of the United States using his power to mainstream the vile ideologies of racist neo-fascism.

This isn’t coming from the political fringe anymore; it’s

Trump is no friend of the UK when he interferes, fuelling hate in our country

coming from the political centre of the America – the Oval Office.

No good could come from a Trump visit to Britain and there is an argument for banning him completely for the public good if he continues to act the way he does.

Like the Americans didn’t want “Mad” King George, we don’t want Deranged Don.
