New appeal over death of pensioner after house burglary
A FRESH appeal has been launched by Staffordshire Police in a bid to solve the shocking murder of Sutton Coldfield pensioner Arthur Gumbley who was savagely beaten and robbed in his home.
The 87-year-old, known as Bob, was attacked at his house in Endwood Drive, Little Aston, on Tuesday, November 21.
He was repeatedly punched and kicked and then left on the floor. Despite being in good health prior to the attack, his condition deteriorated and he died in hospital three weeks after the brutal assault.
The burglary is believed to have taken place between 6pm and 9pm, when thieves ransacked the house and stole items of jewellery and cash, as well as a purse that belonged to Arthur’s late wife.
Two men and two women were arrested before Christmas but have since been released on bail.
A £10,000 reward from Crimestoppers charity has also been put up to bring the greatgrandad’s despicable killers to justice.
Staffordshire Police said they had received a ‘great response’ to earlier appeals but urgently needed a person who had been helping the force to contact them again.
Mr Gumbley’s family said in a statement : “The true impact of this has not hit us yet.
“Our dad was always a very important person in our lives and was loved very much by us all. He truly was a person that not only us as a family, but the people that knew him, looked up to and respected.
“Words can’t express extent of our loss.
“His children, his grandchildren and his four little great grandchildren have lost an important figure in our lives.
“He will always be in our thoughts and we pray to God that he will get justice for this despicable and unnecessary act.” the
