Ronnie finds satisfaction at Indian restaurant

-

IT’S NOT every day that a true rock legend pops into your suburban Birmingham restaurant for a little culinary satisfaction.

But that’s just what happened when Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood dropped in to Umami Indian restaurant, in Lordswood Road, Harborne, just before new year.

Wood, 70, dined at the restaurant with his 39-year-old wife Sally Humphries, who is from Birmingham and still has family in the area.

The couple are parents to 19-month-old twins Alice Rose and Gracie Jane.

Umami boss Abdul Hoque said:“Ronnie’s in-laws live in Harborne so he is in the area quite a bit and he has been a regular at the restaurant ever since we opened. The last time he was here for dinner with friends was just after Christmas.

“Ronnie was very relaxed as he always is and was happy to pose for pictures with our star-struck customers. He ordered his favourite curry, Murgh Tikka Lababdar as well as our lamb chops for starters.”

Ronnie is actually no stranger on Birmingham’s food scene.

In September last year, he dined at Michelin-starred Simpsons in Edgbaston and posed for pictures with chefs in the kitchen.

Back in 2013, shortly after marrying theatre owner Sally, he took her for a curry at Moseley restaurant Deolali, which has since closed.

In 2016, Umami Indian Kitchen was named among the UK’s best curry houses, according to online restaurant website OpenTable.
