Former industrial site finally placed on market

-

A DEVELOPMENT site in north Birmingham has finally been placed on the market after eight years of remediation work.

The two-acre plot, in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield, was once the home of engineering group TRW, one of the world’s leading suppliers of components to the automotive industry. It has since been cleared of automotive engineering buildings and has been undergoing decon- tamination work since 2010. US group TRW was bought out in 2015 by German manufacturing group ZF Friedrichshafen which has now enlisted property consultancy Colliers International to sell the site which sits opposite a Sainsbury’s supermarket and close to the Mulberry Walk retail park.

Simon Norton, industrial director with Colliers International in Birmingham, said: “Since 2010, the site has been undergoing extensive remediation works to ready the area for development.

“This work is now complete and we believe, due to its proximity to Mere Green and direct rail access to Birmingham city centre, the site would likely appeal to alternative uses such as additional residential accommodation or care facilities.”

Manfred Fink, senior manager at ZF Friedrichshafen, added: “The procedure of clearing the site from historical contamination has been a long process but I am pleased to say that all of the necessary environmental assessments have been met and we are now ready to release the site back to the market.

“We hope to secure a buyer that will develop the site in a way that is sympathetic to its surroundings and further enhances the local community.”
