All-women top team sets example

MILLENNIUM Point in Birmingham has its first-ever all-female executive team following two new appointments.

Abigail Vlahakis and Rebecca Delmore have been appointed as finance director and commercial director respectively, joining chief executive Judith Armstrong and head of people, learning and development Vanessa Currie.

Ms Vlahakis was previously senior tax manager at financial services firm KPMG in Birmingham, having started her career as a manager with car rental business Enterprise.

Ms Delmore has previously held similar senior sales roles with Aston Villa, 5Ways Hospitality, the company behind the Park Regis hotel in Broad Street, and Worcester Warriors rugby club.

Millennium Point, which opened in 2001 in the Eastside district of the city, houses the Thinktank science museum and conference space Connect.

The new appointments follow calls by Ms Armstrong earlier this year for more women to consider careers in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).

She said: “As a venue and destination dedicated to supporting STEM, and as keen exponents of attracting more women into senior positions, I am delighted that we now have an all-female team.

“Women have made progress in the number in leadership positions but the gender gap continues to be a prevalent issue. We hope that our news will at least prompt others to consider the balance of their executive teams.”
