Matt’s flying again – Brunt

-

CHRIS Brunt believes Albion’s flying winger Matt Phillips has got his mojo back under caretaker boss Darren Moore.

Phillips backed up a fine display in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool with a vibrant, matching-winning turn at Newcastle last Saturday. The 27-yearold fired the only goal to hand Albion a precious win that kept alive their fight for survival.

“In the last couple of weeks Matty has been top drawer,” said Brunt, who continued to deputise as skipper with Jonny Evans out of favour. “He’s got his confidence back and he’s like Matty from last season, when he was arguably our best player.

“When somebody puts him in and instils a bit of confidence back into his game, then it gives him that bit of belief that he can go on.

“When he does he’s a hard player to stop. He showed that again and, to be fair to him, in the second half he dug in and grafted to help Allan Nyom [in defence] when things got tough.

“I’m delighted for Matty because he’s had a tough season.”

Brunt also lauded the rest of the team as they held firm in a tough second half to claim all three points.

“Each and every player worked hard for each other,” he said. “At the end they put a lot of balls into the box that we had to defend.

“When there’s only one goal in a game it’s always difficult but, credit to the lads, we defended well and it was nice to get another win.”
