Midfield dynamo powers way to new deal
BIRMINGHAM City midfielder David Davis has signed a contract extension.
The former Wolves man has agreed another year on his existing deal and will now remain at the club until at least 2021.
Davis last signed a contract in January 2017, a three-and-ahalf-year agreement that took him up to 2020 at a time when there was speculation about his future.
However, Garry Monk clearly values Davis and has picked him in every one of the last eight games since the 27-year-old recovered from a knee injury.
During that spell Davis manned a two-man midfield alongside either Maikel Kieftenbeld or Cheikh Ndoye.
He has been at Blues since August 2014 and has made 167 appearances and scored 11 goals. He was also named Supporters’ and Players’ Player Of The Season in 2016/2017.
Monk has already turned his attention to Blues’ transfer business and has held discussions with the club’s owners.
“There has to be a change of mentality of what we saw – but even better and even more,” he said.
“And every player that is going to be here is a player that needs to be fighting for better than what the club has been doing.”
Monk has inherited a squad that will lose four loan players, but has just one senior player – Jason Lowe – out of contract.
