We’re closing the wealth gap already
DEAR Editor, Labour’s Liam Byrne states that the country needs a ‘big state’ to reduce the north-south wealth gap.
The remarks come after a report from the Commission of Economic Justice called for a the creation of ‘four economic executives’ in the North, Midlands, South West and South East to take responsibility for economic and industrial strategy and report back to local government instead of Westminster.
Has the Commission not heard of Combined Authorities?
Do they not know that this is exactly what is happening here in the West Midlands. The two responsibilities – economic and industrial strategy – together with a strong will to address the skills shortage will vastly improve productivity and in turn the wealth of the people of the West Midlands.
