City sets bar low on busiest streets

Birmingham Post - - NEWS -

DEAR Editor, I entirely agree with reader William Hopkins regarding the dire, shabby and neglected state of Union Street ( One of our busiest streets is ignored, Post, October 4).

In fact the High Street side of the city is in need of a long overdue upgrade. Broken, damaged and uneven paving, mismatched street furniture, fly posting on cable and phone boxes, along with the usual graffiti. It’s a real letdown compared to the rest of our muchimproved city.

Major improvements in and around Colmore Row and Snow Hill are always being announced and carried out and they have enhanced this area no end.

This is in part due to the excellent Colmore Business Improvement District (BID).

I am aware there is a separate BID that represents New Street, High Street and Union Street. What exactly do they do?

Yet the High Street area is probably more high profile and busier than the Colmore Row area.
