Harry: Jack could go if Villa miss out
HARRY Redknapp is convinced Jack Grealish could play for Tottenham Hotspur and warned Aston Villa they risk losing their talisman if they miss out on promotion again.
Grealish, 23, was the subject of intense speculation during the summer with Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino understood to be a keen admirer.
However, the club didn’t make their move early enough in the transfer window and their late attempts to snare Grealish were rebuffed by Villa owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.
Grealish has since signed a new five-year contract at Villa Park and has started all 15 of Villa’s Championship games this season.
His latest outing came in the 1-0 defeat at QPR last Friday.
But Redknapp, who was at Loftus Road, was impressed with Villa’s No.10.
“I looked at Villa and thought what a great young player Grealish is,” he said. “He’s a magnificent young talent. No disrespect to Aston Villa, if they manage to get up there, great, but he really needs to be playing in the Premier League.”
Could he play for Spurs, though? “Definitely,” Redknapp added. “I sat and watched him again on Friday night and he just wants to get on the ball. He’s a great footballer.”
Former Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has likened star Grealish’s playing style to that of Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.
The ex-forward, who left the club in the summer after 13 seasons, recently appeared on The Kick Off with popular YouTube star The True Geordie.
“For me, in terms of natural talent, he’s one of the best I’ve played with throughout my career,” Agbonlahor said.
“The way he glides past players is similar to Iniesta. You think you can tackle him, but he just runs past you in slow motion almost. He’s a great player and he’s going to have a great career.”
