Bad parkers near school are shamed

-

A ROAD safety group is shaming parents for ‘dangerous and selfish’ parking outside a Sutton Coldfield school.

Moor Hall Parents Road Safety Group, formed in 2013 following a serious collision near the school, publicly exposes inconsiderate school-run drivers on Facebook.

The group claims the some parking outside Moor Hall Primary School is endangering the lives of children.

Members snap photos of examples of bad parking near the Rowallan Road school, then post the images to their Facebook page.

Shocking examples include cars covering footpaths, Range Rovers dumped on double yellow lines and vehicles parked on zig-zags. Drivers have been dubbed ‘obnoxious’ after being caught blocking residents’ driveways.

And one astonishing image of an OAP with a zimmer frame struggling to get past a car parked on a footpath near the school went viral.

Mike Hartwell, who runs the group, said: “Unsafe parkers will continue to park that way until the authorities and police crack down on it.

“The problem at the moment is that there are hardly any traffic restrictions around the school. This is set to change soon so we will see how parents respond.

“The school is expanding so the problem is likely to get worse, particularly as more children will be travelling to Moor Hall from school from further away, and that means travelling by car.

“The safety of the children getting to and from school is a topic I feel very strongly about. Some parents haven’t been impressed their unsafe parking has been made public.

“When I took over the group I checked with the police and they confirmed we are doing nothing wrong posting these photos online.”
